WILLIAM ALLINGHAM Laurence Bloomfield in Ireland William Allingham (1824-89) was born in Co. Donegal, but moved to England and served for many years in the customs service. After his retirement he edited Fraser's Magazine, and was a friend of Tennyson, Coventry Patmore, and the Pre-Raphaelites. He published several volumes of verse. Laurence Bloomfield in Ireland, first published in 1864, takes as its theme the perennial conflict between landlords and tenants in Ireland.
